Transfering Domain Names

If you already have a Domain Name registered and you have a contract with a particular ISP (Internet Service Provider), they will also be responsible for managing your DNS records.

This is important because it controls were all your emails are sent to and which server your website address (URL)  points to.

You cannot therefore, transfer your domain name to point to a new server or have your email hosted on a new server, without the DNS records being updated.

Your contract with the ISP may stipulate that you are contractually required to give a set period of notice before terminating your contract and may be uncooperative in transferring your DNS records.

How to Proceed when Requesting Transfer of your DNS Records

  1. Contact us to ask for advice (TEL 01926 852352)

  2.  Find your current ISP contract information and determine how long you have left on the contract.

  3. View the contract details and identify Termination and Cancellation clauses and pay particular attention to DNS Record Management / Domain Name Transfers. (Again, we can assist you with this process)

  4. If you are within the mandated cancellation period and you have confirmed that you want to transfer your hosting to us, you will first of all need to request your ISP to release the DNS Records to us.

  5. We will then change  the records to point to our email servers and your new website etc.

  6. You will not then need to renew your contract with your old ISP if the contract covers only your email and website hosting.
